Description: Opened in 2009, Rhythm Discovery Center is located in the heart of downtown Indianapolis, directly adjacent to the Artsgarden. The attraction interprets the role of rhythm and percussion in music and culture through dynamic educational experiences. Interactive exhibits, participatory opportunities, and a hands-on area illustrate rhythm, its role in society, and its connections to daily life. The 15,000-square-foot facility houses three galleries, a hands-on area that allows visitors to play a variety of drums and percussion instruments—including a 96-inch drum—and a gift shop.

Description: Home of the Indianapolis Symphony Orchestra, Hilbert Circle Theatre is the second-oldest building on Monument Circle. Originally built in 1916, it was the city’s first movie theater. When it closed in 1981, the historic facility seemed in danger of destruction. The Indianapolis Symphony Orchestra bought it as a permanent home, after an intensive renovation project. In 1984 the orchestra performed its first concert in the beautiful and acoustically superior auditorium.

Walker Theatre was constructed in 1927 as the home of Walker Manufacturing, founded by the country’s first female self-made millionaire, Madame C. J. Walker. The 950-seat theater was placed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1980 and was designated a National Historic Landmark in 1991. The center now serves as an educational and cultural resource center for the community, with particular focus on African-American culture. The center hosts about 150 performances a year.
