Description: Swarms of people line up at Kilwin’s before or after eating on Atlantic Avenue, especially on weekend evenings. In truth, it’s really difficult to pass this colorful shop without going in, especially when you get a whiff of what’s going on inside. The place is redolent with the aroma of chocolate being mixed right in the front window, of a dozen different types of fudge being cooked and then cooled, and of apples being dipped in caramel. And the ice cream! Incredible colors and flavors and textures. Bubble gum ice cream, pralines and cream, Mackinac fudge, Kilwin’s tracks (a mixture of vanilla and fudge-swirls and nuts), cherry with huge chunks, and chocolate chip. And sherbet in various brilliant candy colors. There’s a real choo-choo train running around the top of the wall. And every conceivable ice cream (and chocolate) treat below it.
