67. Tiny Jewel Box

City: Washington, DC
Category: Shopping
Telephone: (202) 393-2747
Address: 1147 Connecticut Avenue NW

It carries modern designer jewelry, of course, but the real attraction here is the area’s largest collection of antique and estate jewelry. The business has bought and appraised such items since 1930. You can find art nouveau brooches, rings, and earrings for as little as $200, but you also can spend tens of thousands of dollars for some of the shop’s diamond and platinum pieces.

68. Yes Organic Market

City: Washington, DC
Category: Shopping
Telephone: (202) 462-5150
Address: 1825 Columbia Road NW

Description: A lot of mainstream grocery chains have jumped on the organic food/herb/vitamin bandwagon, and they do a wonderful job. A look at the telephone directory will reveal dozens of listings for health food stores, but we have to take our hats off to one of the most long-lived and consistent shops in the Washington area, Yes Organic Market. Its three locations prove its success—many health food boutiques fade away after a couple of years. Yes sells organic produce and groceries, diet products, bulk food, herbs, vitamins, and body-care items. Refuel at the deli and juice bar.

The concert hall boasts 1,490 seats, which offer good views but not a lot of leg room. Look for the whimsical hippopotamus statue out front. If you’re driving, you may be lucky enough to find on-street parking.
