49. Desert Sun Resort

City: Palm Springs, CA
Category: Accommodations
Telephone: (760) 322-5800, (800) 960-4786
Address: 1533 Chaparral Rd.

Description: This place is the site of the famous “nude bridge” that spans Indian Canyon Drive to connect the hotel’s two sites. Building of the bridge caused quite a flap a few years ago, mostly because the city gave it a nice subsidy. Prurient drivers hoping to get a glimpse of bare suntans scampering across the bridge were soon disappointed as the high sides provide complete privacy. This is a Mediterranean decorated modern Southern California hideout with resort amenities aplenty: salt-water pool, whirlpools, tennis and basketball courts, fire pit for star-lit evenings, barbecues for guest use, on-site libations and eats, and a full-service spa. Nearly 100 rooms, villas, and fireplaced one- and two-bedroom suites are offered, with the larger units and some rooms having kitchens

Address: 888 North Indian Canyon Ave.

The rooms are just a few steps up from a basic motel, with refrigerators, microwaves, and VCRs. Some have full kitchens. The inn has a pool and massage services. The service is personable and warm, and the location is not too far from the middle of downtown.

Description: An interesting mix of nightclub, spa, boutique inn, and nudism come together at this secret retreat in Desert Hot Springs, so secret in fact that the resort’s physical address is not disclosed until visitors book a reservation. Sea Mountain has 15 recently revamped rooms, each with designer linens, LCD and DVD, and mineral water showers. Breakfast is included and in-room dining is provided by select vendors in the area. “Evening Spa” is held nightly, a “lingerie or less” chill party of dance, pool, and spa. It should be noted that access is limited to adult couples and women, be they overnight or day guests.
