Description: A basic description of Ocotillo Golf Club would mention water, houses, and grass. Ocotillo’s 27 holes—3 separate nines called Blue, White, and Gold—feature 27 miles of shoreline. The nines are built on a traditional design, with 23 of the 27 holes involving water and houses surrounding the perimeter. Designed by Ted Robinson, Ocotillo opened in 1986 as something of a break from the beat-you-up target courses. The fairways are wide, though the water threatens. The Blue course is shortest but has the most water, while the Gold has the least, making for the safest and easiest passage. The White has the toughest hole in No. 9. The Blue-Gold combination is perhaps the most difficult rotation. The signature fourth hole on the White course is a par 4 with water down the left side and water on the approach to the green. It’s very pretty but not too forgiving. With a waterfall to the left of the green and the clubhouse behind the green to the right, this is the prettiest hole on the course.Greens fees are $175, cart included, in the high season, $115 in the shoulder season, $65 May 22 through October 1, $125 October 2 through December 31, and $125 in January.Ocotillo has a 28,000-square-foot clubhouse facility that includes a restaurant, outdoor dining area, and special-events pavilion. The amenities also include a golf shop, lessons, putting green, and a full driving range.
