I looked all over the forums, maybe I just missed it. I didn't see a forum or thread for writting, poetry. I write alot of poetry. I enjoy reading others too.
Me
I am to myself what I will never be to anyone else.
I am not you, I am me.
Don’t presume to know me by what you see.
To myself I am true.
To you I am someone new.
I am to me what I will never be to you.
Maybe my cloths are not name brands
Maybe you think you’re too good to shake my hand.
This is ok my friend, I understand.
You look at me with judging eyes
In your mind I can hear you chastise.
Your no different then the other guys.
So quick to surmise.
So you see my friend, I too am wise.
I hold my head up high.
I am proud of who I am, and I don’t ask why.
I may have to work harder then you and get a lot less, but I get by.
I don’t have to compromise my integrality to the glass eye.
So my friend, to me I’m far more richer then you will ever be
Because I am happy with who I am, I am happy with just being me.
Hi Alaskarain! I enjoyed your poem! Come on over to the games and trivia forum, there you will find a sticky called gamers creative corner. Some very talented people share artwork, emoticons, poems, stories and anything else creative. We welcome you. At least when you post your work there, it is going to stay - because it's a sticky!
Here in Palo Alto, CA, students can share their poetry in a numerous number of ways. One way is for students to read their poems in a poetry slam. To read more about our high school poetry slams, visit:

Wonderful poem. Thank you for sharing, Alaskarain.
Alaskarain, not only do I like your poem, but I like the "you" that the poem represents. Poetry is a very revealing art form and your poem in particular paints a picture of who you are and what strong character you possess.
It's very lovely. Thanks for sharing it with us. I love to read poetry, but am not very talented when it comes to composing poetic verses.
I am currently enjoying and trying to memorize some of Joyce Kilmer's beautiful poetry. I love the lilt of her words.
I’ve got a little list of people and things
I’d really like to miss.
Doctors, lawyers, salesmen,
Insurance adjusters, bill collectors,
Frozen pipes, broken furnaces.
Jury duty.
Things that are ‘good’ for me,
like spinach. Popeye lied.
I’d like to be able to do
without electricity
and the supermarket, not
just because my ancestors did,
but self-reliance seems
antisocial
and after a lifetime of being graded on
Plays Well With Others I can’t
quite abandon my Calvinist conscience
or my Depression era heritage
and walk away once and for all.
So
I make little lists and every so often
I gather them up and burn them,
the lawyers screaming at the stakes,
the doctors who tell me I’m fine, just getting older
and I have to ACCEPT that
now have to accept
staring through the flames at their own Dorian Gray portraits
and the used car and magazine salesmen fight with the
insurance adjusters to escape the blazing glory
and all the boring judges who put their juries to sleep are
now wide awake
and all the broken appliances are greased with the slimy green
spinach and Popeye lights the matches again and again.
Tomorrow I will make another little list.
Who next can I miss?
MY LITTLE LIST
Tomorrow I will make another little list.
Who next can I miss?
Oh I LOVED This poem!! Thank you for sharing it. It's one of those poems that while reading it you're saying to yourself "yea, I know just what they mean"! LOL!
Karibear, what a wonderful poem. It made me smile, nod my head and even think of a couple of other things. But, I am sure that they will show up on your "Next Little List"!
"Do not hurt me anymore.
Go to Hell and find a wh---!"
Yup, be grateful you don't have to suffer through it.
Everyone else's poems on this thread are beautiful, though!!! Thanks, everyone, for being brave enough to share!
I have my share of similar ones. That's the great thing about writing poetry - you do it for yourself, not for anyone else. Of course, there is the occasional poetry class, but since those are for public consumption, they barely count.
