I highly recommend doing a safari tour in one of the safe countries in Africa (Uganda, Kenya, Botswana, Namibia). There is nothing to compare to being out on a savanna seeing the wildlife at dawn.
Kenya is decently safe, but there have been too many Islamist terrorist attacks in recent years to put that country high on my list.

Good point, although, just as an FYI, I think you'd be hard pressed to find people referring to themselves as "Akan" in regular conversation. Instead, you're more likely to hear "Ashanti," "Fante," "Brong," "Ahafo," etc., all groups which fall under the Akan umbrella.
These African cities, judging from their pics, look like the CBD's of many western Sydney suburbs.
