I have been temporary employee at Corporation A for 3 years. I was suppose to be on this certain assignment for only 1 year but for some reason they liked how I worked and they decided to keep me on.

I have had numerous conversations with management about them bringing me on a permanent employee since they have told me that they were in the past. For some reason they always decide that they can't bring me on because of budget reasons or not being capable to create a position for me.

Now, let's say I get a job offer for from Corporation B the only catch will this is that I will be making ($1000-$2000) less than what I making now, but full time job with benefits and learning experience that I have been missing.

If you were in my position, what would you do? Take job with Corporation B if you get an offer or stay with Corporation A making a bit more money but working as a temp...

Thanks in advance for your feedback.

Easy question for me. Take the job with Corp B and swallow the pay cut. The benefits you will most likely get as an employee will offset the pay cut.

I know you have been there for a while, and really like the company, but so long as you are a temp you aren't an employee. If employees can't always count on promises made by employers, a temp really should treat everything they hear as a "maybe."

I would also weigh the options of advancement within company B versus C. It's entirely possible that an offer from B just might open up a position at C as well and you'll want to know your career options there so as not to delay your decision either way.

I would take the job with company B. Benefits easily equate to $1-2k a year.

And I might keep my eyes open for Option C as well.

Go with Company B, if after a year you're still working as a temp/contractor they have no intention of bringing you on full time.

The benefits are worth a few thousand dollars.

If you've been a temp for 3 years, they have no intention of making you permanent.

I would take the other offer.

That's a no brainer. Complany B. Benefits are approx. 35% of your monetary compensation. Paid vacation/sick leave, insurance, 401k?, unemployment, there are probably others as well.

Thanks everybody for the advice. Yeah I currently get paid a bit more and get overtime but I think having a full time job and gaining more experience will benefit me in the long run.

Not saying which one you should take but consider this: are the benefits from Corp B paid in full for you? Probably not; you will have to pay into them. Keep in mind that some temp agencies also have benefits you can pay into; and sometimes if they are a nationwide company, they get lower group rates. In addition, there is no job security with a temp agency, they can call you off a job at any time. Chances are if this place likes you enough to keep you for 3 years and you're willing to work there on a temp basis, they won't get rid of you. Not stable yes, but a new job can end the experience at a moment's notice too and you might not be able to get back into Corp A on a temp basis again and you'll totally be out of work. Keeping the temp job until the right job comes along might be another angle to consider.

Good Luck!

I understand your point of view, so that's why is a tough decision that I have to make if I do get an offer. Also on my current job, it doesn't involve anything with my degree but pays ok for what it is. The job that I applied for concentrates in my degree area but less pay and with benefits.
