West Virginia University Hospitals Win National Nursing Award - WBOY-TV - WBOY.com (http://www.wboy.com/story.cfm?func=viewstory&storyid=72169 - broken link)

MORGANTOWN -- West Virginia University Hospitals ranks at the top of the country for its nursing services.
The university hospital is the only one in the nation to receive the Magnate award twice.
The American Nurses Credentialing Center put the hospital staff through a rigorous inspection for the award, first in 2005, and again this year for standard re-evaluation.
The hospital had to submit information and data about how well the nurses served their patients to improve their care. Then, a committee visited the hospital to verify all of the claims made in the submission.
“The Magnet designation recognizes the excellent work our nurses do each day,” Bruce McClymonds, WVUH president and CEO, said. “It reflects the commitment of our entire staff to serve as a team, providing the highest quality care possible for the people of our community.”
Part of the award comes from the staff's demonstration of excellence in how the nurses treat their patients, as well as how they continually work to improve their practice.
"Our workforce is one that constantly strives to do better," said Dottie Oakes, WVUH vice president and chief nurse executive, "So they're always looking at better ways to do things, they're looking to evidence-based research to improve the quality of care. So they're definitely a quality nursing workforce which is what Magnate is all about."
The Magnate status also includes annual reviews.
I believe WVU Hospitals are the only ones in the State to get on this
particular list, if what I read is correct. There is something in today's Morgantown newspaper about it.
