My husband and I are preparing to move cross country to WV once our current house sale closes. We plan to buy a property at some point this year, but will need a short term rental to bridge the gap. With 3 dogs in tow, we’d like to rent a house, not an apartment. Other than Craigslist and AirBnB, is there any kind of resource either online or in person that advertises short term rentals? I’m wary of Craigslist with all the scammers. Would a realtor be able to provide any help in this arena while also helping us find a place to buy?
It would help if you tell us where in WV you are moving. It's over a 6 hour drive to go from Huntington to Martinsburg.
I can't think of any such resource around the Charleston area, but it may exist. Traveling nurses (and others) come here to work at CAMC for a few months at a time. The universities in Huntington and Morgantown might cause similar needs in those cities.
Long term, the main area we’re considering is from Elkins to Morgantown, east of I-79 (or along its corridor). We’re also considering the areas around Lewisburg and Summersville. Short term rentals in or near any of those areas would be ideal.

A local realtor usually handles rentals in small towns or try VRBO.
