LOL, " People In Control" and "Money Kings" stood out as names that could go either way.

How do you know there are gangs in Cape Coral? Do you see them in the streets, at schools? I have been reading your posts and can tell that you are VERY UNHAPPY living in Cape Coral. Why did you move there? How did the realtors talk you into moving there? Do you have kids in the schools? How can living on the water with a boat in that beautiful weather be so bad? It seems like you really miss Long Island. The market is getting a lot better here (Long Island) for the buyers-plenty of homes for sale.

There is alot more to life then beautiful weather and a boat. This is the most greed filled area I have ever seen. It makes New York City look good. If you don't live here you don't have a clue.

That's why I asked you. Is it the expense of living there? What don't you like about the schools? I hear that the HS is the best in Lee County. Are your neighbors not friendly? Believe me, I know there is more to life than a nice house on the water. I want like everyone else wants for their family. Good neighborhoods, friendly people, safe area, good schools.....I'm curious as to the reasons you feel this way about Cape Coral. Believe me -I want to hear both sides. The good and the bad-that's why Im asking. Enlighten me.
Thanks for the reply.

Every state and major city in the United States is plagued with local, loosely structured, street gangs that are mainly motivated by drug sales. Historically, disruptive incidents in our prisons have been based on the geographic origins of the inmates involved (e.g., Miami gang inmates vs. Tampa gang inmates).

These local groups form based on common interests and a sense of loyalty to individuals from their city, neighborhood, street, or housing complex. They adopt generic names such as Players, Posse, Crew, Mafia, Gang, and Bad Boys and attach their particular street or avenue name to it.

Although they are loosely structured and tend to conduct their illegal activities in a specific location, they are extremely violent and develop bitter blood rivalries.

Often the group evolves, and adopts an alliance with a national street gang such as the Bloods, Crips, or Chicago-based Folk Nation and People Nation sets and use their symbols and identifiers. This graduation in gang involvement often occurs in county jails, prisons, and juvenile facilities.

This increases the importance of tracking the development of gang membership while inmates are in custody. Tracking enables DC to notify local law enforcement of new members or of any changes in a member's affiliation.

Hundreds of these local gangs have been identified in every city from Pensacola to the Florida Keys. This includes small rural towns, upper middle-class neighborhoods, schools, and other areas where we tend to deny gang existence.

Next door to my building, we have gang activity now. It is probably MS-13, as I was trying to compare the grafitti at home to some sample gang grafitti online.

I will take a pic of it and bring put it online. I am also satrting to see a lot more gang grafitti off of I-4 in Orlando. A Lot. By Lee Road, there is a ton.

Your list is good info, but Orlando has a ton of MS-13 gang members on the streets and your list just says "several cities and counties". I wish there was more info on each gang per area. MS-13 gangs are concentrated on East Orlando, by Semoran/Goldenrod/Conway/Hoffner... that is where we see their grafitti in most of the time.

Orlando has some Latin Kings too.... very violent gang. They were in New Haven, CT too!

Hey you notice the majority of gangs have latin/Spanish names??? Why is that???

Lightbulb History

Gangs have existed in the United States for over 200 years. It all started when the first immigrants came to the U.S.A. Most of them came for a better life but many of them ended up in poverty. The first gangs were formed among poor adolescents who grouped together for the sake of socialisation and protection. They were of the same race or the same ethnic background. The first known gang specialized in crimes was called “The Five Points”. It consisted of Irish immigrants and was established in New York City. They dressed in a specific way and used monikers or nicknames. Another early gang were the “Forty Thieves”. Their gang leader was Edward Coleman and they formed in 1826. New York City’s early gangs had an easy time of it because of the government corruption. They plundered stores and private homes without being charged by the police.

Gangs formed around similar ethnic backgrounds. After The Civil War there were Jewish, African American, Italian and Irish gangs in New York. Chinese gangs appeared in California in the mid 1800s. Philadelphia reported gangs as early as 1840. Between then and 1870 Philadelphia became home to over 100 street gangs. This is also the time when gangs started to use clothing for the sake of distinctiveness. Chicago became a type of gang capital during the 1920s, with a total of about 1,300 gangs and about 25,000 gang members. Immigration of Mexicans into California grew rapidly in this period. Many youngsters of the second generation didn’t fit in the American society. They started wearing fancy and distinctive clothes called “Zoot Suits”. Serious problems with sailors (it was the time of WW II) caused the “Zoot Suit Riots”. Between 1941 and 1945 over half a million Puerto Ricans arrived in the United States. Most settled in New York City, which led to the formation of new gangs. Also during the 1920's the African American populations migrated from the south to northern cities and established gangs there.

Dressing, body language, hand signs, tattoos and certain styles of talking became important means of identification. The reason for gang wars was mostly the violation of territory borders or fighting over girls. The fighting became more violent when gangs got better access to firearms in the 1970s. Hierarchies were built and minors sent to commit crimes because of the lower sentences they would get in case of an arrest. As the number of gangs increased. the territories often were just a single corner or just one block. Gang war was fought guerilla-like including rooftop snipings and drive-by shootings. Enhanced by the media the next step could be that gangs form small, homegrown cells of terrorists. In my opinion a statement to think about.

Default Webster defines "gang"

Let's start with the dictionary. Webster defines "gang" this way:

"gang n [ME, walking, journey, fr. OE; akin to OE gangan] (15c) 1 a (1): a set of articles: outfit (2): a combination of similar implements or devices arranged for convenience to act together b: group: as (1): a group of persons working together (2): a group of persons working to unlawful or antisocial ends; esp: a band of antisocial adolescents 2: a group of persons having informal and usu. close social relations."

When I put "gang member" into my Roget's Thesaurus in my Microsoft Bookshelf program, I came up with this:

"bad person, evil person, no saint, sinner, hardened sinner, limb of Satan, Antichrist, evildoer, fallen angel, backslider, recidivist, lost sheep, lost soul... one without morals, immoralist reprobate, scapegrace, good-for-nothing, ne'er-do-well, black sheep, scallywag, scamp, rake...profligate, libertine, wanton, hussy, loose woman..., outcast, dregs, riffraff, trash, white trash, scum, object of scorn..."

And it went on. When the word "gang" is mentioned, we cringe, we become scared, we look for a cop.
