Seems Olympia would like to add registration of residential rentals which would include a non pass through fee, property inspections and work towards lower carbon footprint through electrification in 2024.

I would expect single family rentals impacted the most as what often happens is the property owner decides to sell to a owner occupant… of course owners of multi family often don’t have the option to go out of the rental business…

On the face it’s another level of bureaucracy with fee schedules and redundant because the city is already very responsive should a tenant call in a concern.

It’s reminiscent of something popular in California and sad to learn Olympia is moving that direction.

I managed several single family homes that all had zero issues passing inspections but the owners each decided to exit the housing provider business and none of these homes are rentals today… that was in Hayward California.

The second aspect is name a program that doesn’t expand in fees or requirements over time?

I would be interested is hearing what others have to say and no, Indint nor does anyone in my family own or manage a residential rental in Olympia…

Just a way to collect more taxes. it raises the price of rent because that fee will be wrapped into the rent, and it probably decreases the number of available rental units.

Received the Rental Inspection (Seattle, Central District) notice 2 weeks ago and promptly passed it on to our PM (son, uncompensated except for occasional mommy meals.). $175 (IIRC) for our rental, SFH. I don't think this is a money maker for the city/county. We are much underpriced to keep the good tenant but it is too big and expensive for a single person.
