There has been a backlog of people wanting to go during the pandemic, and with all restrictions lifted a lot of tourist destinations have been swamped. In a couple more years it will be back to normal everywhere else, but it will be longer for Hurricane Ridge since the closure will just create more pent-up demand for the future.

Many of you may know that the road to Hurricane Ridge is open again. But the parking lots can fill up quickly and when there are filled, incoming traffic is not allowed to continue up until spaces become available. In fact we left Sequim at 6 AM to get to the Hoh rainforest at 8 and the line to proceed to the parking lot was so long that we would have had to wait up to three hours, so we turned back.

Admittedly it was Fourth of July weekend, but still. To avoid a total waste of time spent, we took the short drive down to coast to Ruby Beach which is a fantastic wild Pacific beach replete with a lot of driftwood and sea stacks. A day later we again left early for Hurricane Ridge and were successful in making it to the top.

Traffic was undoubtedly worse due to the holiday weekend, but do some research before heading to Olympic National Park this summer, especially on weekends.
