For all those folks concerned about the state government tracking them......

Why not the same level of outrage with Google, Apple, Verizon, and a host of others that are tracking you using your cell phone?

Really, all the state of Washington needs to do is buy the data from Google, Apple and Verizon!! Cell phone data works EVEN in a 1964 Nova!!!

My guess, is that in the future the state of Washington and the Federal government as well will pass a law REQUIRING you to have your phone with you at all times. The Federal government is ALREADY giving away cell phones to illegals entering the country as well people who cannot afford a cell phone.

Not hard to determine if your traveling on a road. For those that ask, yeah, but I was not driving. Check out how relational databases work and pretty quick you can determine to whom the vehicle is registered.

Using relational databases, we can even determine how many people out there are picking up hitchhikers!!

The Washington State Legislature just can’t propose enough “woke” bills:

https://www.king5.com/article/news/p...0-b0ce24732aca

https://app.leg.wa.gov/rcw/default.aspx?cite=43.101.410

This is probably a legislative reaction to the Tyre Nichols murder in Memphis. This is eerily similar to the legislation passed after the Floyd murder in 2020 which resulted in weakened laws for law enforcement and a huge spike in property crimes and drug use/overdoses. Nothing good can come of this.

We already have a device. Just 68miles driven in previous metered month. This makes our auto insurance at $1.00/mile driven, and that's on high deductibles and minimal collision (2009 Prius)

How many heavy duty trucks do you license, register, or operate in Washington State?

When did you last submit your quarterly payment for GTM or IFTA.

We (truck owners) pay dearly, as we always have.

Yikes, at $1/mile I would be paying about $15,000/year for our 3 vehicles. Currently the total with full coverage at $250 deductibles is only about $2,400.

You're gonna need to become very stealth. Insurance companies are likely to require trackers before the State does, but they'll be happy to share / sell their data.

Probably be a vehicle specific ID registration to validate your DL, registration, insurance, appropriate endorsement for the vehicle you're operating, safety record, current fuel and EV taxes paid up.... Then you can be allowed to do your required trip safety and route planning pre-check, sign a full responsibility binder...BEFORE vehicle will operate.

With over 50 licensed vehicles, I hope these nanny devices are portable, and not dedicated to each unique vehicle

The fact is.... The government can know all they need about you, and your activities and movements. WA supreme Court loves FULL disclosure, so they'll get it! They write and interpret the rules.

Is that how they will monitor which miles are done in-state or out? Or will it be up to us to report miles driven out of state/country?

A GPS unit in your car would take care of that instantly.

They can also use your phone for the mileage outside state.

The real issue is IN STATE. State gas taxes ONLY apply to public roads. Likewise, the state cannot charge for the following roads....

These are NOT public roads: National Park Service, Forest Service, BLM, State DNR, State Fish and Wildlife Service, and of course private roads.

DOT already has electronic logbooks, adding fuel / routing / $ and time spent, and where traveled.

It will be national system (Some of us have been carrying RFID via State enhanced ID's since 2008.)

It's no question where we are, or where we've been. Some DL RFID's can be read from the roadside. ~20 ft
