Thanks for posting the pictures.

That is one coping mechanism for western Washington, Oregon and Alaska. I had a friend move to Alaska, he bought a VERY EXPENSIVE "houseboat".

It was the only way he could cope with Alaska...every Friday, on the boat and off exploring, then return Monday morning to work. His only regret was NOT living on the boat full-time!!

The house is just a prison in those areas.

Especially for those responsible for putting on and replacing our own roofs.

Which is a rapidly declining number of C-D posters.... Hammers and shovels are not 'tools of the trade' anymore. +/-

Not so much anymore. Though good tradesmen are still in high demand. Finding a good plumber, electrician, etc... are getting increasingly harder to find. Consequently, demand remains high. Our plumber is normally booked out for weeks and months in advance. He also gets to pick and choose which jobs he wants.

Roofers and framers are probably not as highly in demand. Though that is just speculation looking at the huge developments next to us that lay dormant for the most part during this season. The land is graded, streets and basic services in place. But the work in these large multi-phase projects are on pause. No roofers out in this season. That's different in warmer states which bang nails year round where I also worked in the trades (carpenters and pipefitters union and non-union).

Its the digital age where many jobs are online or other services indoors like those in the medical, financial and educational fields just to name a few.
