A second Seattle metro airport is already leading with Everett. I could see additional flights there, but Sound Transit would need to build a station there, something that would take a half decade to build. Olympia, no. Eastern Wa has been mentioned with Moses Lake, a huge platform from military days. But again, you would need high speed transit for it to work. Don’t think it is feasible right now, and even if it was, would take a decade plus to build.

From my understanding the airport won’t even be completed until 2040? And per this article they have already narrowed down the green site options down to 3.

1. Pierce County East (Graham)
2. Pierce County Central (South Creek)
3. Thurston County Central (East Olympia)

Source: https://seattlemedium.com/three-site...-next-airport/

And then we have the two existing airports as options as well

4. Paine Field
5. Bremerton national airport

But according to this article it seems like they want to go with one of the green sites plus upgrade Paine field to be a small regional airport, with no mention of Bremerton, so Bremerton is probably axed then?

For the 3 green site locations I think Graham makes the most sense as it is the closest to Seattle and sits on a railway line which can be used for freight as well as a new sounder line from Tacoma down to Graham. There is also a rail line that goes down to Orting from Sumner which could probably be extended down to Graham too)

I don’t really understand Bremerton in the discussion. Yes, Kitsap county is growing quickly. But quick transportation to Seattle/Tacoma transportation is limited to one bridge, and that bridge, once you cross it is still about 45 minutes to 2 hours to Seattle depending on traffic. Not a gamble I would take. If there was a futuristic under the sea tunnel that would be one thing. But that isn’t going to happen anytime soon.

I'm not sure the point is to serve Seattle. SeaTac serves Seattle. I think the point is to serve the wider growing area so that not all have to go through SeaTac from other areas to fly.

I don't like the south sound options at all... I don't want that kind of development here... but I'm afraid it's not up to me.

I guess I didn’t explain my last post adequately. A 2nd airport should only be built if there is great demand from a large population. This is why LA has multiple airports. Again, while Kitsap is growing, it does not yet have the mass for a commercial airport. I still believe Paine field is the logical 2nd airport. But county and city restrictions make this somewhat difficult. Atleast they have started with a spike in the ground there.

I realize it doesn’t have the population now but this thing is gonna take 20 years to be built.

Seriously it has a completion date of 2040.

I guess it’s good to plan ahead if you need to buy a huge piece of ground somewhere. If you build it the city will grow around it… At least that’s what I’m afraid of If they build it near me.

Point taken. Yes buy the land well before you need to use it. Economically makes sense.

That airport will make olympia, Yelm, rainier, etc into a decent sized metro. Airport of that size needs alot of workers, plus car rental companies, hotels, cab drivers, etc. All of those new jobs will require more housing, and the smaller towns are cheaper to rent than olympia, so many new housing will be built there, so this will definitely make this area much bigger. I'm not sure if people in olympia want that kind of growth, it's going to turn into a spokane if that happens.

If it gets approved you will see massive building of apartments, houses, hotels, restaurants, bars, car rental companies, widening of roads, plus the airport. This will easily add another 50k population to the metro area once new workers start families and so on. The bigger the city, the more people they attract since theres more to do. People from small towns that's less than 2 hrs away will migrate there.

So seems like the three proposed sites are dead in the water and the whole process of finding a new site will have start all over again.

“ Last week, we learned that Joint Base Lewis-McChord officials believe that the three sites are “incompatible” with essential base operations and mission-readiness requirements.”

At this point it seems like the Bremerton site is the only one that hasn’t faced serious opposition? The only other alternative would be the build HSR to an airport even further out, perhaps near Centralia right in between Portland and Seattle.
