So I moved to Washington from out of state in August and I never got around to updating my driver's license. It is just so hard to get to the dmv with 2 kids while my husband has the car all day at work. But I really need to do it. What can I expect at the dmv when updating it so late? What if I get pulled over with an out of state license?

Thanks

I lived in WA for almost 3 years before I switched mine over. I think I had to take the written test because I was late but it was no big deal. Luckily I didn't get pulled over for anything and my FL license was still valid. Just get the driver's manual and study it before you go take the written test. You won't have to take an actual driving test.

The only real problem is if a cop pulls you over, the law requires that both the vehicle and driver be licensed within 30 days. Where you license the car is not even a state agency, they are private contractors.

Only if you can AFFORD to go to an 'Agency' / private contractor, or are not close to county DOL office. In my area many people go to the source, cuz we don't want to pay the extra 'agency' fees.

OP... Just tell the DL place that you failed to get in on time and you are sorry for that oversight. I trust your 'other' license has not expired, and you should go ASAP. If you have to take a written test... STUDY (Especially stopping / passing distance and alcohol limits). If you get to a question you don't know (for sure) skip it. As soon as you have answered 25 correctly you pass. If you skip too many, those will start looping back into your current questions and you will have to remember or guess.

I have had many co-workers from CA who could not pass a WA test the first (second or third) time, so ... study! I take the CDL tests (commercial) and have not had a problem passing. You do want to decide before you go, if you want an 'ENHANCED' WA License (good at Canada and MEX crossings). These are NOT available at all DOL, Bring your passport. Bring your kids and get WA ID's for them too. We found that very handy and they look like DL ! (at least they did 20 yrs ago)

I knew there were contractors, but I didn't know the fees were different. I cant seem to find anything that says how much more it is at a contractor? I registered several vehicles there and sure don't remember any extra fee called out.
