Mercer Island, Redmond, and Bellevue are not far in mileage from Seattle but it is a congested, usually time-consuming commute when things are normal and more when something makes it worse.

If you look at Washington Department of Transportation website or other local news sites you could probably get a time estimate for a potential commute if you can supply hypothetical start and end points. Just getting to Seattle doesn't mean it gets easy, exactly where you need to get still matters and substantial time could be spent in heavy traffic on the urban streets too during normal commute times.

If you select to use the 520 bridge, there will be a toll soon or now (I think up to $5 each way).

If you use I-5 you avoid the toll (at least for now) but you would add time from Redmond or northern Bellevue puttering / waiting to get on it.

Mercer Island has a good shot into Seattle but the average price of homes is $700,000+ in part because of it. The relatively few apartments might be higher priced there than comparable ones in many non-Seattle neighborhoods.

A lot of people make that commute though. Time and money trade-offs between where some of the jobs are and where some of the people prefer to live. Whether it is reasonable depends on all the specifics (including income and the time when you need / want to commute) and tastes and expectations.

Define antisocial nature? haha

Any second now there is this lady who will parachute in and go on and on about how bad an idea it is to move to Seattle because of the "Seattle Freeze." SHE didn't like it in Seattle so NO ONE else will either!! The people who live there now must be CRAZY!! (Haha)
