I heard there's a pharmacist shortage, to the point that some pharmacies are having trouble maintaining regular hours.

I didn't think there was a demand for pharmacists based on information from the BLS.

It says:
Despite limited employment growth, about 13,600 openings for pharmacists are projected each year, on average, over the decade.

I don't know if a pharmacist shortage is an issue in Seattle or WA, specifically, or nationwide, but there was a thread on the topic a year or so ago. Some pharmacies only have one pharmacist, so when his/her shift is over, the ph'cy closes for the day, and people can't get their prescripts until the next day. I think the discussion was in the context of the big chain drugstores.

Maybe it was a corporate bottom-line decision. If that's the case (I'm trying to recall the details of the discussion), then how "demand" is defined may not be consumer-driven, but corporate-driven. IOW, there's low demand bc Walgreen's & CVS, and the big grocers (Safeway/Albertson's, etc.) don't want to have 2 or more pharmacists on staff per day, and they're the employers, so they've reduced their demand for staff. But consumers need there to be more pharmacists.

It's too bad the Pharmaca chain closed down. They were always well-staffed.

If there is only two pharmacists, then there should be one in the morning and one in the evening. Because people don't get off work until like 4 or 5pm.

I read an article that was similar to what your describing, and it was said that they were reducing the hours of the pharmacies because of the shortage of pharmacy techs. Because the technicians don't want to work in retail pharmacies anymore, because of the lack of appreciation and pay. But that's where a lot of people go to get their prescriptions.
