I had the chance to come up and visit western WA this week. What a beautiful area! I loved the Montesano, Elma, Yelm/Eatonville, and Rainier/Tenino areas. However, I had been warned that Centralia would be too conservative for me and Morton would be way too conservative (which I found to be true).

I liked the Rainier/Tenino area but since it is close to Centralia, and Eatonville was a little close to Morton, I was wondering if this area would be too conservative for my family. We are members of the CA Green Party and pretty liberal thinkers. I currently live in El Dorado Co. in NorCA, but much of the county is fiscally conservative as opposed to religiously conservative.

Or Whatcom County. It is your typical artist/free/hippyish community. Great place.

I would say spread your beliefs!!!! Change their minds!!!! It's possible in this political atmosphere right now where people are rethinking their so-called "conservitivness" There is a great place called Cathlamet off of HWY 4 toward Long Beach and I think that you'd find the political climate there definately more liberal (in my opinion) There's a famous rocker who lives near the town who has made it a point to let people know about his liberatarian views and our reps from that area are Democrats. Check out Whakiakum County, or just go against the grain and move to Centrailia. I was unaware, besides the big conservative billboard, how conservative they are there, which is a shame, I, myself am considering moving there to be closer to Evergreen State College next year

Default Liberalizing Centralia

You have a good point Brittanym. It might be good for those set in their ways to be exposed to a Buddamist (that's someone who grew up Methodist and is now Buddhist). It could make life more interesting, or not?

kidblue and brittanym,

I hope the two of you don't confuse libertarian with liberal/democrat. A libertarian wants a small federal government with little government envolvement in our lives, liberal/democrat see federal government and government in general as the answer to all things.

I'm an old hippie that wants the fed out of my life. We can take care of ourselves. So if spreding libralism and voting in more democrats into office is what your about, stay in or go too Seattle or Portland and have fun.

Those areas, like most rural areas, tend to be more conservative. But they are becoming less and less rural. If you like the area, move there. You'll find plenty of people with like interests in town or just down the road in Olympia.
