Hello everyone,

I currently live in Denver and I have been offered a position at Georgetown Medical Center. I have been pouring over maps trying to decide the best area to commute from. It doesn't appear that the Metro stops anywhere close to the medical center. Other considerations are that I have a 3 yr old so I am going to require a great daycare facility for him. My hours will be approximately 6:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. However, there is some flexibility with this.

I would like to keep my commute under 30 minutes if possible. The earliest daycares usually open at 6 a.m. I would appreciate any information and recommendations that anyone can provide. Thanks in advance for your time.

Marla

What are you looking for in terms of living quarters?

What can you afford to pay?

Thirty minutes during commuting times won't get you more than about 4 or 5 miles from your work place in the DC area. If you have to be at work by 630 that helps some so maybe you could up the distance to about 10 miles but thats about it. Prices in this zone will for the most part be VERY expensive.

There is a shuttle from the Dupont Circle and Rossyln metros, but they can be slow and add a lot of extra time. If you plan on staying, make sure you take schools into account when you make your decision, the quality of elementary schools can vary a lot. Realistically, you are probably looking at a longer commute to fit the bill.

I'd look at South Arlington. The commute will be reasonable enough and it's cheaper than most of the other areas close to the city.

How much are you looking to spend in rent?

look at the rossyln neighborhood of arlington county. free (i think) shuttle from the rossyln metro. you could even walk it if you wanted to. lots of condos available near by.

The GUTS shuttle is free for students and staff (see schedules here), but the Medical Center is at the far north end of the campus, along Reservoir Road. Unless things will change this year, it is just the Dupont Circle and Wisconsin Avenue shuttles that have stops on that side of the campus...
