Today, 11 Restaurants in DC proper earned Michelin Stars (Sadly, no one received 3) and one in Virginia

Rose's Luxury 1 star

Kinship 1 star

Fiola 1 star

Blue Duck Tavern 1 star

The Dabney 1 star

Masseria 1 star

Tail Up Goat 1 star

Plume 1 star

Do you guys think anyone was snubbed? And What do you think the debut of the Michelin Guide will do to DC's burgeoning dining scene.

I have long felt that many DC restaurants were deserving of Michelin stars. It's good to see that some of them have finally been recognized. This is like achieving the Nobel Prize in the culinary scene.

In spite of this, I'm sure that the DC detractors are going to thumb their noses at this.

Its cool I guess but I think its a little overhyped. In the age of Yelp and Washington Post food critics, it seems a little dated. Ive never heard of someone actually relying on the Michelin Guide.

Michelin Guide is primarily used by international business travelers and tourists. In some ways it will always be behind the curve in terms of newer places, as well as hidden secrets. A big oversight for example is them not hitting the entire metro area. Especially for the bib gourmand. No Silver Spring Ethiopian, No Arlington Vietnamese, No Korean in NoVA. I can go on. But this is an honor for those who did get it, and helpful for DC in general.

It's not perfect.

Neither is Yelp, the Washington Post, Zagat, or City Paper.

2 more DC restaurants earn stars. Sadly, no 3-star entries this year.

Komi- 1 star
Métier- 1 star

The Michelin Guide always focuses on fine dining. The guide is used by international travelers and 3 stars for all destination restaurants. You're talking flat out gastronomy when you look at the list of 3 starred restaurants. I haven't been to many of the DC Michelin starred restaurants because I have no desire to set up a 3 month reservation, drop $1,000 for a meal, etc.

Pineapple & Pearls 2 stars

Inn at Little Washington 2 stars

I've heard great things about these two. When I visit my friend in Alexandria later this month we will definitely go to one or both of these.
