I recently excepted a job offer in the Oxnard/Ventura area, and I was looking for places in Oxnard (figured better bang for your Buck). Found some places on apartments.com, but was wondering about recommendations from locals. My budget is 2k/month (though ideally around 1800-1900). I’m a single dude in my early 30’s (if that makes a difference). Thanks!

Regrettably, the good 1 br. apartments in Oxnard are going to be over 2,000. You can find studios under 2k. Location also matters. You might include Port Hueneme in your sphere of search.

Ugh… I remember I was looking for places in Ventura in late 2020, found places around 1700. What the hell happened

Vacancies are low, and the pandemic put additional pressure on housing, both rentals and purchases. Prices have steadily crept up since 2017.

It's not impossible for you, but I would definitely look around the entirety of the area, Ventura, Oxnard, Port Hueneme, Camarillo. Padmapper.com tends to be reliable, where you will get responses. In my previous reply, I stated that "good" 1 br. apartments will be over $2k, but that doesn't mean you can't find a decent 1 br. in an acceptable building for under 2k. For instance, I've seen 2 br./1ba. condos in quadraplexes near Victoria and Hemlock in Port Hueneme next to Channel Islands Harbor available for as low as $1800/mo. That area is busy with families and kids, so probably not exactly quiet, but the area isn't terrible. If you have the opportunity to go to the different areas to see for yourself how the feel is for you, that would probably help.

Have tried tapping into some of the management companies, Oaktree, California Oaks, etc.? You can usually put in an application that will be good for several weeks for any of their listings that you qualify for in case nothing is available now.

I'm sure you've considered room rentals temporarily or even Air BnB. If not, those might offer temporary options for you.

Default Oops

I don't mean this to be insulting, but if your new job involves spelling, you might want to brush up on it. Your job was accepted, not excepted.

Good luck with your new position.
