Hi everyone,

I'm about to relocate to Ventura and have been looking for a place to live and was thinking of settling in Camarillo. I'll be working in Port Hueneme and was wondering if anyone here knows how the traffic is heading that way in the morning.
Also, if someone lives/lived in Camarillo can you tell me more about the area and where would be a nice place to live. Thanks

Camarillo is a very family oriented town. I worked at Point Mugu for ten years. I knew a LOT of people in Camarillo. Some people would say it is conservative, probably because of a lot of retired people and former military people living there?? Excellent weather. Not cheap. If you are single you may find it boring. If you have kids, you need to really check out the schools; I've heard some are good and others are not. There had been some political stuff going on with the schools Adolpho Camarillo High School, Oxnard, District stuff...something...I forgot.

I used to commute from Moorpark to Mugu through Camarillo before the 23-118 bridge was built. Traffic my way was getting worse. For you, I would think most people are heading towards LA but I'm sure a lot of people head to Hueneme on those two lane farm roads. They are either done or will be done with the 101 bridge over the Santa Clara River. Once the construction is done it should be smooth sailing. I'll be out there next week, may take my parents out to Channel Islands for lunch...

Hey there again, sdann. From Camarillo to Base use 101 to Victoria. Or, Pleasant Valley Road all the way. Good luck on your move, where ever you end up.

Port Hueneme

Good : The weather is nice. Quiet. Close to work. No traffic. Police and Fire station nearby and they respond pretty quick to any problem. Within 10-20 mins to everything. Restaurants, outlets malls in Camarillo, shopping.

Bad: It could be boring to some people but not to us because we like it slow pace.

The whole area (Hueneme, Oxnard, Malibu) is very foggy often until afternoons.

It sucks for sun lovers (often looks like in a horror movie) and it is good because less watering the lawn.
