I decided to explore Salmon Creek for the first time from the water today. I wasn't sure how good it would be or how far I could actually get starting from 36th Ave. But it turned out to be great paddle all the way out to Vancouver Lake and back. Other than the creek being a bit low it seems like an excellent spot to explore. Lots of big birds out there and the trees are just starting to change color.

Thanks, nakadinhi. I am just shooting with my cellphone while paddling, nothing too special. Although in all honesty as a pretty serious hobbyist photographer, the colors in the PNW including dramatic lighting with the varied sun, rain and clouds and smooth water make it pretty easy to capture nice images.

I have never paddled this particular spot before so I really can't speak for it, but generally the waters have been glassier here than while living along the coast. While in Monterey, it was rare that we'd have glassy conditions in the afternoon. Onshore winds blow strong most days throughout the year. But here it can happen regularly on the lakes and rivers as long as a storm isn't blowing through. And mornings can be complete sheet glass as well. This makes paddling more enjoyable. Here's a few recent local lake examples:

And afternoon glass offs:

Mtn Surfer, Please continue to post your photos. For people who are interested in the area, but don't live there.

Yeah, I'll try. I think Vancouver needs a photo thread sticky like Portland where others can contribute as well.

One more for the road. Summer sunsets are really nice here.

I can get behind that idea. Any moderators here? Derek, maybe just start a Vancouver photo thread with that in the title and we can get the sticky added later.

Ok, I'll start a thread. Sometimes PNW Type Gal comes around to moderate. Maybe she can get the sticky made.
