Hi. We have a few questions regarding sports activities for our younger children (12-g; 8-b). Are there competitive soccer leagues available for the 12 year-old girl? She is a club trained goalie and loves it. Only wants to move if she can play and have a horse - ha ha ha. Our son loves soccer too. We all want snow. Thank you for any information.

MrB,

I don't know about soccer leagues, although I do see lots of soccer games being played on school fields, but I just wanted to add that if you think you'll be getting snow in Clark County, you may be in for a surprise. We get very little snow here, unless you're living in the mountains. Good luck in your search!

Thank You. I saw that Amboy appears to get more snow. Do you know if there is any truth to that? How about Ariel?

Hi Mr. B,

Sorry, I don't really know about Amboy. In fact, I'm not even sure where it is, except I think it is near Yacolt. And I've never heard of Ariel. If their elevations are higher than Vancouver's, then they may get more snow. But, the main reason we don't get a lot of snow in the Pacific NW is because our temps often don't get low enough, unless you're up in the mountains. I'm not an expert, but in the winter we usually get lots of rain and temps in the 40s. And like last year, everytime the temp would go down below freezing, we didn't have any moisture to make snow! But that is the Vancouver area and we are pretty near sea level.

My only other comment is that if snow is very important to your family, you'll need to live up in the mountains or in eastern WA. Good luck!
