Also, did you every raise the issue of your qualifications or limitations on the duties/task you were assigned?
1. Why are you no longer working at your last job?

2. Were you warned that your actions could result in being fired?

3. When were you warned?

4. If you were fired because the employer said you could not do the job, what kind of work were you doing?

4. How long did you work at this job?

5. Had you ever done this kind of work before?

I did mention that some of the programs I would be running are the first time I would be doing it.

You need to phrase everything along the lines that the actual task and responsibilities were above the skill level you and your former employer knew was your ability. A lot of emphasis will be on the PIP and your failings under the PIP. You need to bring it back to the basics that the PIP was based on what they unreasonably expect from you based on your skill level. They tasked you with duties above your known level and penalized you for not meeting their expectations when those expectations should never had been expected.

As others have said, being bad at your job is not a disqualification for unemployment.

Even misrepresenting your qualifications on your resume, application, or interview is not necessarily a disqualification. For example if you stated that you have 'expert' level experience with a software or task, that is a subjective term that would not be a disqualifier. Stating that you are a Master Electrician when you are not--that would be a disqualifier.

Being warned about subpar performance, or being placed on a PIP is usually not a disqualifier (Because what an employer considers subpar is subjective).
