So, one of my favorite shows of all time is Northern Exposure. I wish it would go on Netflix, or even a cable station. I would be in heaven if I could binge watch it.

I found the entire series for a great buy at Walmart one day!! I was so excited
I wish Brand and Falsey would put their other shows out on DVD, I'll Fly Away, A Year in the Life, and all seasons of St. Elsewhere.
I gave up on Northern Exposure quickly. The premise was too unbelievable, I felt too sorry for Joel, and I thought Maggie was the worst person in the world. And I hated the DJ's "aw, shucks" voice (I even turn Walgreen's commercials off these days). I gave up during the first season, and only watched again when Anthony Andrews' character moved to Cicely.

I too would love to see it come to TV. I recall reading that the producers don't have the music rights secured for TV airings. It's almost impossible to secure after the fact, and far too expensive.
It wasn't unusual in those days for a show to have some great original & cover music, but only for a first airing. WKRP in Cincinnati was another one in the same situation. That has kept both of these great classic shows off the air for decades.
Sometimes they secured DVD rights, but not always. In the case of WKRP, they did not, so when they wanted to release them on DVD a few years ago, they had to go get music rights from hundreds of writers. I understand they were able to get 90% of them, but not all. So the WKRP DVDs had most of the original music, but in a few episodes, they had to cut & replace some songs. But even all that effort was only for the DVDs; they were not able to get airing rights (AKA syndication).
For the Northern Exposure DVDs, I don't know if they secured the rights, or simply replaced all the music (which is more common than you would think). Anyone with the DVDs know if it's original music or generic replacement?

I remember the series "I'll Fly Away". First time I ever saw Sam Waterson. What a terrific series it was. For the life of me, I can't remember an ending to the story. Lily, wasn't the main black woman's name Lily?

I'm slowly watching it on Netflix DVDs right now.

It had run its course anyway. By the fifth season the series was on its downside. Still solid but certainly past its peak If anything, Morrow's departure probably prevented it from soldiering on long after it should have.
