Heh, given how far her relationship with Kody had already deteriorated I don't think I would have blamed her for running off with her 'handsome man'...
Fine, but own it. All her sneaking around hiding it and being dishonest and coy "hints" and cryptic allusions to "not being there anymore" were ridiculous, and now endlessly playing the victim as if she never had any intention of leaving... Grow up, Meri!
I thought I remembered koty being supportive of invitro .. & Meri declining. Then she changes her mind .. but had waited too long & koty had moved on. Growing up being a member of a plyg family w/27 siblings Meri was well aware of the expectation of a polygamist's wife -- to produce children.
The lifestyle being portrayed in this program is ILLEGAL within the borders of the United States. In many cases (possibly the majority), it also involves abuse of the food stamp and WIC programs. The law forbids the "husband" marrying the alternate "wives" in the eyes of the state; therefore, since these women are usually mothers who -- by the choice of their husband -- do not work, they often qualify for food assistance programs. The cults encourage the women to sign up for the programs; even when they don't require the assistance, the cult leaders enjoy ripping off the American government and encourage it within their communities.
Many of these women DO live in abject poverty, as well as enforced ignorance and breeding. To ensure that they can enjoy multiple younger wives, the older male leaders use any excuse possible to banish healthy young men from the community, thereby eliminating competition. The larger cities outside the cult communities are "home" to many of these under-educated, unskilled young men who have been banished from the only family they ever knew for the crime of being attractive to young women who are valued for their childbearing ability. These young men, too, live in poverty and loneliness and often fall victim to drugs and prostitution. If TLC was really interested in "learning" rather than money, they would do a program about that tragic situation.
I already answered below.
Yes but these women a playing a drama for TV about their lives and putting all the blame on the husband. They were working before the show came on TV. I suspect they are all rich now and enjoying every cent they are getting doing this show. This is why it is being dragged out to keep making money. Because of the show and the new found riches they get from being on TV they eventually discovered they can do better than live in misery sharing one man. Especially since only one, as far as I recollect, was actually raised in polygamy. They blame him when it's all just stupid drama to get more money.
I am adding. These sister wives on TV are not really following the polygamy life. As far as I ever known they never lived in one home all together or if they did at one time it was for a short time. What you described is what I call the real polygamy cult life. But these people on TV are not at all what I call a religious polygamy family/group or whatever have you they think they are. I'm not saying they are not a family. It is mostly women who don't want a full time husband until they get jealous of one another. These women would not have anything if it were not for Kody, their own jobs and mostly because of this TV show. They must be bored with the constant moving around so now it's all new drama they have to make up. Plus who the hell cares that one married and got out of the pretend marriage with Kody.
