Planning my move to Tucson and I am confused about inspections and emissions. Are cars over 5 years exempt? The language is confusing on their website. Is there only emissions? Or is there also inspections, ie, headlights, horn, tires etc.

I lived there in the 80's and recall getting emissions on my jeep which was over 5 years old.

Thanks.

My 2009 car is still required to get the test every other year.

Maybe lights, don't recall for sure. I don't think horn.

I don't think there is any safety inspection involved- hasn't been for years. It's just emissions. And I think it is the other way around. Newer cars are exempt (I don't recall having one on my 2019). EDIT: I checked. Vehicles of 1967 and newer, and more than 5 years old. require emissions testing.

Thanks, I read that backwards I guess. Probably because here in MA older cars, not new cars are exempt from emissions.

Sounds like a little "backwards" to me.

The inspection is required for my 18 year old Chevy SSR but NOT for my 38 year old Jeep CJ-7. I believe the breaking point is 25 years.

However, I believe no inspection is required for the first five.
