I've only lived in Houston and Dallas but I have literally NEVER heard anyone use it.

Sounds like you’ve never attended a birthday at Texas Roadhouse

.... Bout as often as I say, "Yippee-Ky-Yi-Yaay".
But we left Texas some years ago. Frankly, we miss it, but won't be moving back. Family, you know.

I say it, but rarely. I have heard it used by some folks (I guess more rural types) more as a passing, mild interjection for something good or wild (in a positive manner) happening, but never as a big yell or anything. That's definitely an unfounded stereotype.

Anyone who's never heard "howdy" (which I do use, certainly more frequently than "yeehaw") has never been around Aggies. Two years there for grad school, and I've never rid myself of it from my vocabulary.

I just imagine it being yelled out by the offending driver every time I'm cut off by a lifted 6 ton pickup.
