Anybody, including my dog Blue would be far better than Shrillary Hillary or Osama Obama or Fake "I'm for the poor working class" Millionaire John Edwards.Since I am moving to Maryville,TN as soon as my transfer comes through,I would now have to look at Thompson more closely since he has more morality in his pinky than all of the Dems put together sans Joe Lieberman. He is the type of regular guy that motivated my move from hanging chad land,Palm Bch County,Fl,land of the "Stolen Election"that 6 yrs later they're still whining about. From Liberal Looney Tune Land to Conservative Common Sense Country,TENNESSEE!!!Go Fred!

Well, this is a bit difficult. Any of us can tell you whether we have a good opinion of Thompson or not, but our opinions are going to be colored by our own political leanings. For example, I'm an independant (having voted for both Democrats and Republicans) but I do lean toward the right. Because I don't see Thompson as an extreme conservative, or a liberal (of course), and because his views on the issues are similar to my own, I have a favorable opinion of Thompson.

I do realize that Thompson as a candidate is a politician just like all the others running. The goal of a campaign is to paint your own candidate in the best light, while painting the other candidates in the worse light (and often doing it with mud). That is just the way the game is played these days. And it's going to be played for the most part on TV, although the Internet is having an effect these days.

Personally, I think Thompson is honest about his positions (and has taken a couple that are not in the Republican camp); has as much intregrity as any of the other current candidates in the ring; has the ability to form a plan for the country and communicate it to the public, and to get the public behind him on many issues (although not on the "hot button" issues where people are set in their opinions--issues such as abortion); and has the ability to run the office. I don't think he would be quite as diversive as Bush or Clinton have been, although there is a lot of bitterness on both sides these days (I know I have more bitterness towards the Democrats now than I've ever had before). If Thompson had run for the senate again in Tennessee, he would almost surely have won by a wide margin, both because he was popular and because he was the incumbent.

So . . . that's one Tennessean's feelings about Thompson. Others will surely disagree, and I'm not going to debate them here; I'm merely stating my own views. I'm not sure whether this helps anyone, but you asked.

Default Fred Thompson

In my opinion, Thompson is the only hope for the Republican Party in '08. If they nominate McCain or Giuliani, millions of conservative voters will not vote.

Because Giuliani and McCain are too liberal to get conservative votes.
