Hey All, hoping someone can help me out, considering moving to Eastern Tn. Looking to buy approx.100 acre livestock farmland. Do not really know which towns are best suited or where to begin looking. Any suggestions would be deeply appreciated.hope I did this right.

Thanks much,

Jack

I think you need to let us know what you mean by "which towns are best suited." Best suited for what?

What size town are you looking for? What kind of area (mountains, lakes, etc.)? Do you have a particular budget? Does it need freeway access? What kinds of things do you want in your town--WalMart, movie theaters, good schools, museums...?

Without knowing more, and thinking that you truly mean east and not middle TN, I would recommend Greene or Hamblen counties. Grainger county has some pretty good prices but a lot of the land is up and down. Wishing you the best in your search.

Monore Co. Sweetwater or McMinn Co would be good choices
if your going to farm say maybe Cattle, there is 2 live stock sale barns in both Sweetwater and Athens

Try Morgan or Fentress Counties

big BIG BIG rural areas. My grandparents own about 12 acres in morgan near fentress and the value has doubled since they purchased...cause they finally ran city water down the road they purchased on now if that isn't rural I don't what is.

I agree with SMG: Greene or Hamblen. Greene County has Greeneville which is a growing, thriving little city with close access to Johnson City and only an hour's drive to Knoxville.

If you are thinking cattle, you might look at Meigs, McMinn and Rhea counties. All have good cattle land, established farms and fairly convenient farm stores/coops near by. Land around here is more typically valley, with ridges along the edges, rather than generally mountainous (as is the case in Morgan, although there certainly is cattle suitable land up there, too).

Greene county is a good choice, lots of open land, and the land isn't selling right now, so you should get a decent price.

Good luck

Tony

Look along Hwy. 11W which runs on the North side of Lake Cherokee/Clinch River valley.
There are lots of dairy and cattle farms along there. It's mostly Grainger County with the county seat at Rutledge. There's a weekly livestock auction in Mascot. Cattle Farms around there and Blaine. Those are in Knox County.
