I am an aficionado of this peculiar fruit (and any Asian offshoot) and I am seeking to better determine where to secure it naturally in my current locale. While I likely won't be invited to someone's backyard, I wouldn't mind being invited to the lot next to someone's back yard if the trees there could (legally) yield abundantly and delightfully. And, I wouldn't mind sharing some of the proceeds. This season's harvest is likely closed, but I am prepping for next year, and in so doing, beginning my trek to have a good path towards a great crop next September.

I would be grateful for any help. TYIA

American Persimmons are plentiful in this area. I'm sure someone might have some saplings you could have, as they spread pretty easily. We have many persimmons patches on our acreage (not near Clarksville). The wildlife love them!

Be aware that the American Persimmon is rather smaller than typical Japanese persimmons, but the trees can easily grow to 50 feet. Persimmon also is a nice hardwood---good for smaller woodworking or for fireplaces.

I don't know anything about the tree you speak of but wouldn't doing a search on Clarksville Tennessee nurseries help you?

I live in an apartment, and while saplings would be wonderful, I could not plant them here. I cannot envision planting them in a park, as most places I know are commonly protected areas.

Thanks for a good idea and great advice.

As mentioned above, this idea is appealing, but I live in an apartment and would have nowhere to plant these items. I will certainly inquire of local nurseries, to see if they can direct me to where these can be found in the natural setting. Thanks for this idea.

Fwiw, saplings.

Mail order or drive 2 hours east:
https://www.tnnursery.net/products/persimmon-tree

Maybe a nursey could tell where they are natural and accessible, but that would be lucky

Maybe someone knows if they can make it in a large container?

Internet says yes with proper drainage

https://www.google.com/search?q=can+...gXSAQkxMDc5M2o

but also says it may take 7 year lead.

https://www.plantmegreen.com/blogs/n...shipping%20pot.

Perhaps a local park, communiyy garden, library, school or church could be sweet-talked into a planting along some back edge.Perhaps...

"beside the shore at Percy Priest Lake." Contact this person and try to get specifics.

Local variety apparently quite different than Japanese variety. Find / try before a large time investment.

I had the idea that OP was more interested in locations for foraging for persimmons?

Yes, that how I took it.

OP, when I lived in Oklahoma I would just drive country roads and scout out the persimmon trees. Then in the fall I would go pick the ripe persimmons off the ground.
You will have to share with the raccoons and opossums though.

Yes, absolutely, procuring locally, not looking to grow or cultivate. There is something to be said about picking these items, akin to going after ripe apples, pears, or other fruit during the high point of harvest.

Thank you to those who have chimed in. There is everything delightful about considering I may do this again locally.

They are terrible trees for yards and parks. I used to have one in my yard and every time the wind kicked up I would have many branches laying on the ground. These trees belong in woodlots.
