My husband and I will be looking to move to TN in about 2 years. I am looking for the best place to live close to Nashville. My job is based out of Jackson so we would like to be within a reasonable driving distance to there as well. We will have a middles schooler so schools are important. Would like a safe area as well.

Any advice is appreciated!

Nashville to Jackson is 2 hours of drive time. I don't think you'll want to drive for 4 hours every time you need to go to Jackson and back. If you must live out of Jackson Metro, I would look at Arlington, TN (Memphis suburbs) as it is 50 minutes to Jackson.

The only "city" in between is Dickson. It is about 2 hours drive time Nashville to Jackson. Dickson to Jackson may cut 30 minutes of drive time. When traffic gets back to normal may be up to an hour to downtown Nashville.

Are you going to be a remote worker where you might occasionally have to drive to Jackson for a big meeting, or will you commute daily? That makes a big difference.

If you're commuting daily to Jackson, then I'd look at Jackson or nearby cities (Selmer, Dyersburg, Brownsville, etc)... wherever you find a home you like. Nashville is too far. The Eastern edge of the Memphis area is doable for a commute to Jackson if you don't mind driving 45-60 minutes one-way. I've known people that live near I-40 in Memphis who do it.

If you're going to work at home long-term, then you have a lot more options and could live in or around Nashville.

As others have said, Arlington down near Memphis is probably your best bet.
