We're having a home built in SE TN and one of the fireplaces will be a propane burner.

We don't have natural gas available so that's not an option.

Never having had one I'd like to know if one can buy a tank and purchase gas from whatever propane company is competitive our do we have to rent one and be obligated to purchase propane only from that vendor?

Need to know what's customary and what are options are.

Thank you in advance.

I have two propane powered fireplaces in our new to us home. There was a rented 500 gallon propane tank in the back yard 8' from the house and a crawlplace vent. I told the sellers to remove that tank as it was against code to be there--and ugly.

For one or two fireplaces, you can buy one 100 lb. vertical propane tank that should be sufficient for one season. It can also be taken in for filling.

Suggestion: If you're putting in a gas fireplace, purchase a high quality direct vent fireplace with fans and a remote control. The unvented builders grade fireplaces suck the water out of the air and they smell when being used.

Congratulations on building in SE TN. I just love the place including the natural resources and fantastic rivers in the area.
