Not surprised about UTK. They've really become a quietly solid academic university. Most people still think football instead of academics, but that shouldn't really be the case.

Surprised about Univ of the South. I thought it was pretty pricey.

I was surprised about Sewanee, too. But I guess they factor in things like how much their graduates make versus how much student debt they incur. I guess.

I'm definitely not surprised about TTU and UTK. Those two schools have the highest ACT scores among Tennessee's public universities which speaks very well about them.

On a side note: UTK was also ranked as having one of the ugliest campuses in the country, and I have to admit that I kind of agree. And Sewanee was ranked as having one of the most beautiful campuses in the country which is definitely true. That place is just gorgeous.

There are a good number of high sticker price schools that also have the endowment power to give out pretty significant financial aid grants. (ie. the middle class student often ends up with a lower debt load coming out of Harvard or Yale than they do from State U.) Wouldn't be surprised if the University of the South fell into that category.
