We're not opposed to living in a community that is predominantly Caucasian, but it would be nice for our children to play with other children of various backgrounds (similar to their schools in nyc).
Actually that's your goal lol.

Not true, as they didn't say that in the OP and don't come on here assuming something they didn't say. Unfortunately, that happens a lot in this forum.

This is also considering the demographics of Prospect Heights, which is where they would be coming from and is actually a diverse part of Brooklyn: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Prospe...ghts,_Brooklyn (look to the right)

Looking at the demographics of that Brooklyn neighborhood, if the suburbs were an option, the closest that might come to that on a small scale is probably this area/census block group in DeWitt/Jamesville-DeWitt SD that has a mix of apartments, but also a good mix in the SFH streets(I actually know a family that lives/lived in that area): https://censusreporter.org/profiles/...6-onondaga-ny/

It lacks the walkability aspect though. A street view of a SFH street in the block group: https://www.google.com/maps/@43.0489...8192?entry=ttu

As for within the city, an area of Strathmore in its northern portion is similar demographically(block group): https://censusreporter.org/profiles/...0-onondaga-ny/

Keep in mind that the information used is 2022 5 year Census estimates, but can give some idea of the makeup of parts of the area.

Shotwell Park isn't that bad. Its isolated from the nonsense that we have known Eastwood to be. I am not totally down on Eastwood, but I would lock those doors most of the time.

Eastwood is not a bad area. Outside of some older apartments, it is largely mostly homeowners and you don’t hear much serious crime coming from the neighborhood.

It is a very walkable area, which has a good portion of the city’s population and could catch on as a “popular†neighborhood in the near future. It is also in a good location between the Thruway, I-690, shopping/restaurants on Erie Boulevard East, hospitals, Downtown, colleges/universities, etc.

When looking at the demographic information from 2020, the census tract the neighborhood is located in includes a portion of the Eastwood neighborhood. It is 12.2% black alone/16.2% inc. mixed/in combo.

Some information: https://www.unpa.net/ (check out the video below)
An older video:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2Y1nEjfUbXw

https://westcottsyr.com/
A street view of the business district: https://www.google.com/maps/@43.0401...8192?entry=ttu
A popular festival in the neighborhood that highlights the diversity in the area: https://westcottstreetfair.org/ (has a video below)
A residential street in the neighborhood: https://www.google.com/maps/@43.0398...8192?entry=ttu
Some accolades for the area by the American Planning Association: https://www.planning.org/greatplaces...ersityhill.htm
So, it puts you close to not only Syracuse University, but to Syracuse Stage(professional theater), the Community Folk Art Center(a University affiliated art center with a focus on the African diaspora), the Westcott Theater, this community center(which has a Wednesday Farmer's Market during the warmer months): https://westcottcc.org/ , events at the University(lectures, sporting events, etc.), multiple hospitals and more. You also have a couple of parks such as Thornden Park and Barry Park, where you can find a diverse mix of people spending time enjoying the their time. A street view of the area around Barry Park: https://www.google.com/maps/@43.0304...8192?entry=ttu

Also, keep in mind that the previously mentioned Berkeley Park is in that general area, with Scottholm and Meadowbrook also in that general area.

You also have this area near Syracuse University's South Campus/athletic facilities, which isn't too far away either: https://outercomstock.org/?v=f24485ae434a
an older video about the area:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=AykUqM4xrIc
It also has a good mix of people and Comfort Tyler Park in the neighborhood. Again, you can walk to or take a shuttle to events at the University too.

A street view of an area of the neighborhood I think is pretty nice: https://www.google.com/maps/@43.0197...8192?entry=ttu

This is a newer housing development in the neighborhood: https://www.xavierwoods.com/
https://www.google.com/maps/@43.0199...8192?entry=ttu

You also have this business district north of Syracuse University: https://crousemarshall.com/
https://www.google.com/maps/@43.0415...8192?entry=ttu

There is also some shopping in this area also nearby: https://www.google.com/maps/@43.0282...8192?entry=ttu down the road: https://www.google.com/maps/@43.0220...8192?entry=ttu (some stores are behind the plaza)

So, this may be a general area to look into and it also isn't too far from the big box shopping on Erie Boulevard East/East Genesee Street in DeWitt and Bridge Street in East Syracuse. Plus, due to the college presence(there is a SUNY medical university, SUNY-ESF and Le Moyne College next to the Salt Springs neighborhood), it has a different, more "liberal", "crunchy" vibe/feel to it.

More information about some census tracts on that side of town: https://data.census.gov/table/DECENN...00,36067005601

https://data.census.gov/table/ACSDT5...00,36067005601

https://data.census.gov/table/ACSDT5...00,36067005601

For the eastern half of the Salt Springs neighborhood also on that side of town and near Le Moyne College: https://data.census.gov/table?t=Blac...0US36067003602
https://data.census.gov/table/ACSDT5...0US36067003602
https://data.census.gov/table/ACSDT5...0US36067003602

A street view: https://www.google.com/maps/@43.0493...8192?entry=ttu
Also, has a park in the neighborhood, with a Little League: https://www.google.com/maps/@43.0507...8192?entry=ttu
https://www.syracuse.com/sports/2018...tos_video.html
https://teampages.com/organizations/4111
In terms of the bolded area, here are some businesses in the neighborhoods, which includes a mix of restaurants(needs to be updated a little bit): https://westcottsyr.com/business/

Some restaurants in the nearby Crouse-Marshall district: https://crousemarshall.com/dining-an...e/restaurants/

Also, these programs may be something you would like to get your children involved in at the Community Folk Art Center not too far away: https://communityfolkartcenter.org/c...-arts-academy/

Just to add, Sedgwick would be in the eastern portion of the Northside TNT sector: https://www.tomorrowsneighborhoodstoday.org/northside

While the Shotwell Park area of Eastwood is in the western portion of the neighborhood/section: https://www.tomorrowsneighborhoodstoday.org/eastwood (the arlington Tract is in the SE portion of the neighborhood)

Strathmore and Winkworth are in the western portion of the Southside sector: https://www.tomorrowsneighborhoodstoday.org/southside

The Valley is the neighborhood/section further south, with the South Valley being the bulk of the neighborhood south of Seneca Turnpike(the thick white line on the map): https://www.tomorrowsneighborhoodstoday.org/valley

If interested, this is a way to get involved: https://www.tomorrowsneighborhoodsto...o-get-involved
