So, I have been to about 45/50 states, and I find the people of CNY to be the most genuine and happy across the country.

Not sure what it is, but I have always felt this way from my first visit to Syracuse in 1990.

Maybe the fact that it is not a transient community, has something to do with it.

Any feedback on this would be helpful.

Interesting, as the people are generally “Down to Earth”. You have those that are happy to be in the area, but you also have your downers in terms of the area as well. Some of that may be a matter of personal situation, exposure or preferences in terms of downers, but you also have on the happy side those that see the potential and the steps/improvements being made in the area that they may participate in.

There is some transience due to the many colleges/universities in the area, but you also have your long time, deep rooted families as well. Some may leave and stay away, but some leave and come back as well. In my own family, even those that have stayed away(Charlotte, Virginia Beach and DC) don’t necessarily “talk down” about the area outside of some things that can be improved upon like any area across the country.

I've lived all over the country and no contest the people in central and western NY are my favorite. There is not another state I would actually list the people as a reason to move there, but I do consider it a reason to live in WNY/CNY. Certainly not the only reason though! NY state has a lot going for it.

Very true.

When I was travelling across the states, I also noticed that NYS Thruway was easily the best. Very clean and paved well. If you go into Ohio from NY, you can see the big difference in how the roads are maintained and the safety of driving on the NYS Thruway.

Sure, we pay for that high level service in the higher tolls, but its is worth it. This also applies to the snow days, where the plows are out quickly and often.

Which is interesting, as the Thruway Authority and the tolls are what takes care of the road.

The people of CNY and WNY are down to earth, yet spirited. Generally not pretentious, practical, easy going. Rare in the US in this century.

Thank you for your post. Very true words you wrote.

I have lived in Las Vegas, LA, San Diego, and travelled to almost every state.

We are not only all the things you mentioned, but many of us are very honest and blunt in a positive manner...while so many in other states are nice, but in some ways, are mostly fake and passive/aggressive.

LA, for example, is a city, with the worst collection of humans I have ever seen.

San Diego gets a little bit better. Vegas is a an absolute disaster, on so many levels.
