Hello.

I am 32 years old and am considering getting another degree. I am from lower New York State and want a change of scenery. I miss being on campus and want to explore the two schools mentioned. I don’t want to feel like a number, I want to go somewhere where people remember me.

What can you tell me about Syracuse University and Le Moyne College? I want something with the cheapest tuition, accessible campus by walking, student activities on the weekend, and something that is a near but not actually in the city of Syracuse.

In a few months it’s gonna snow. So I want a campus where I can get to classrooms without being compromised by snow or other weather conditions. I might rent a SUV. If someone doesn’t have a car, what campus is most suitable for them?

Both are private institutions. So, tuition will be higher than state schools. Le Moyne College will be more affordable and it is located on the eastern edge of the city/town of DeWitt line: https://www.lemoyne.edu/Admission/Fi.../Tuition-Costs

Syracuse University is located east of Downtown and will cost more: https://www.syracuse.edu/admissions/...undergraduate/

Check for available financial aid though, as you may get enough to drastically reduce costs for either institution.

Life goes on in the winter up here and it is rare for colleges/universities to close/not have classes. This is due to having the infrastructure to remove snow efficiently and winters seem to be milder in recent years.

Both are walkable, but SU is in a more urban setting in parts, while Le Moyne even in the portion within the city limits is more suburban in nature with more single family homes around.

Also, there is SUNY-Environmental Science and Forestry(aka SUNY-ESF) next to Syracuse University: https://www.esf.edu/

There is also the SUNY Upstate Medical campus as well(on University Hill near SU and ESF): https://www.upstate.edu/

Further out in the metro area are Cazenovia College(private with less than 1000 students in a community on Cazenovia Lake east of Syracuse): https://www.cazenovia.edu/

SUNY Morrisville(about 40-45 minutes east of Syracuse, in between Cazenovia College and Colgate): https://www.morrisville.edu/

Colgate University in Hamilton(is a private institution that is actually a little bit closer to Utica): https://www.colgate.edu/

SUNY Oswego(about 40-45 minutes NW of Syracuse): https://ww1.oswego.edu/

and within the CSA(which includes Cayuga County/Auburn area), there is Wells College in Aurora(a private, former all female college that is now co-ed with less than 1000 students on Cayuga Lake): https://www.wells.edu/

All of them have 4 year programs and this doesn't include community colleges such as Onondaga Community College: https://www.sunyocc.edu/

or Cayuga CC in Auburn: https://www.cayuga-cc.edu/

I guess you could count nursing programs such as the one at St. Joseph's Hospital on the North Side/Prospect Hill just north of Downtown: https://www.sjhcon.edu/

and at Crouse Hospital(on University Hill): https://www.crouse.org/nursing/

So, you have a lot of institutions of higher learning in the area that you could choose from. This will of course depend on what you are going back to school for as well.

Also, in terms of student enrollment, Le Moyne College is much smaller with about 3300 students, undergrad and grad: https://nces.ed.gov/globallocator/co....asp?ID=192323

While Syracuse University has just under 22,000 students, undergrad and grad: https://nces.ed.gov/globallocator/co....asp?ID=196413

Syracuse University is the biggest of any of the colleges/universities in the area and may be the biggest Upstate. Le Moyne is Division 2 in sports(used to be D1 in Baseball(pretty good too) and Women's Lacrosse, but may go D1 in the future) versus SU, which is in major Division 1 college sports.

Here is a street view of the area around Le Moyne College, which is in a nice, diverse area: https://www.google.com/maps/@43.0493...7i16384!8i8192

OP, you're going to be not too far from Lake Ontario! Of COURSE you'll be dealing with snow. I suggest you get a 4x4 if you're worried about driving in it!

^It is about 45 minutes or so via I/Route 481 to Oswego. There some beaches nearby along the lake as well.

Higher average snowfall totals occur north of the city, especially in the snow band off of Lake Ontario in Oswego County.

Also, a neighborhood that is in between both colleges is this walkable East Side neighborhood: https://westcottsyr.com/
https://www.visitsyracuse.com/things...owns/westcott/ (needs to be updated)
A neighborhood festival: https://www.westcottstreetfair.org/
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Westco...cuse,_New_York

It is closer to SU, but it is only a little over 2 miles from Le Moyne.
