Hello all,

Strathmore seems to have the best "bang for the buck" in the real estate market in CNY, in my honest opinion.

Can any of you give me feedback on the Strathmore area?

I know some parts are not very good...but...

I have worked in that area, and I find some of the areas near Glenwood Ave and Corcoran High School to be very good areas, as well as houses near the Park.

Thank you.

What are you looking to do? Rent or buy? The actual neighborhood is fine, but you may have some nearby areas that are iffy to the east/NE of it.

What do you mean by “Bang for your buck”? It is an old money neighborhood with its share of historic homes. There are others within in the city as well.

It is nice that Upper Onondaga Park is right next to the neighborhood and offers great views of the city.

You also have Most Holy Rosary and Bellevue Elementary Schools are on the northern edge of the neighborhood.

Westcott Reservoir next to the neighborhood and some use the hill to get some training in.

If you go up McDonald Road onto Onondaga Hill, there is a nice Ice Cream spot(Gannon’s, formerly Shadybrook).

You also can go west on Glenwood Avenue to Bellevue Country Club to get some tee time. Western Lights Plaza, which has a Wegmans, is down Velasko Road and a left onto Onondaga Boulevard. If you keep going straight on Velasko(becomes Avery Avenue across Grand Avenue), you can go to Burnet Park, which has a 9 hole golf course and the Rosamond Gifford Zoo. If you go further, you are well into the Tipperary Hill neighborhood, which has some Irish pubs.

I’ll stop there, but that gives some idea as to what is nearby.

Nah, it is still good. Some of that may be a matter of familiarity/comfortability, but the neighborhood itself is fine and the information a few posts up illustrates what to be mindful of.

Have you narrowed things down to any neighborhoods or communities yet? What about a budget?

i thought the same.
I used to work at Corcoran High, in college, as a volunteer.
but, maybe it got worse, as I was there in the late 1990s.

Strathmore is still quite nice. It still is well kept and for the most part is pretty quiet. You still have people in the neighborhood that are invested in it having a high quality of life.

I don't think it is considered to be a part of Strathmore, but I like the nearby Wadsworth Park area, which is quite nice and is closer to Bellevue Country Club and the shopping in the Western Lights area alone Onondaga Boulevard.

A street view: https://www.google.com/maps/@43.0268...7i13312!8i6656

That could be another nearby area to look into.
