Personally, I'd say that the portion of the community south of Court Street and west of Teall Avenue has the nicer homes within the community. Not that there are some outside of that area though.
Historically, due to its location, it is known for its pretty high Italian population(still have the Italian American Athletic Club, for an example), but has become more diverse within the past couple of decades.

This could be a good option for those that may work at area colleges/universities such as Cazenovia College, SUNY-Morrisville, Colgate University or at places such as Turning Stone/Oneida Nation, HP Hoop in Oneida or Vernon; Marquardt Switches or Knowles Capacitors in Cazenovia or local companies like Dutchland, Owl Wire & Cable and Bimbo Bakeries, among others.
A good area if you want something more rural/small town in environment and in between quite a bit to the east(Syracuse) or even to the west(Auburn), this would be an area that fits: https://www.realtor.com/realestatean...90351?view=map (some of the SD is in Cayuga County, which is technically in the Auburn micro area, but still in the Syracuse CSA)
Minoa is the best hidden secret in America, and I have travelled to over 40 states in my life.
If you need to be around more people, Fayetteville-Manlius is gold, with the best Supermarket in town (Wegmans), the best State Park (Green Lakes), and 2 Casinos that are very nice.
Yes, I am going to retire in the area when I am done working, because the winters are not that bad (just stay in when it gets dark, and you are good).

I don't know about all of that, but it is a good choice for people that want a quiet community with some things going on and that is still close enough to Syracuse. It is in a good school district as well(East Syracuse-Minoa). It is an old railroad village that is east of the Dewitt Yards. There is some walkability in the village: https://www.google.com/maps/@43.0775...2!9m2!1b1!2i37
F-M is nice, but it is the 5th biggest suburban school district in the area in terms of residential population. North Syracuse, Liverpool, Baldwinsville and West Genesee(6th biggest, if you include the more exurban/rural Central Square SD that straddles the Onondaga/Oswego Co. line in Brewerton). So, there are other suburban options with more people.
In terms of an upscale community, the Fayetteville-Manlius usually gets mentioned in regards to the area, but if you want a nice, big and high end property, Skaneateles is the way to go(in my opinion). https://www.realtor.com/realestatean...,-76.275675,12
For big box shopping, just like the Jordan-Elbridge SD, the closest locations are the same(Auburn or Camillus). For instance, the closest Wegmans is the Downtown Auburn location(quick drive west on Route 20): https://www.google.com/maps/@42.9326...2!9m2!1b1!2i37
Also, its location allows for residents to go to either Auburn or Syracuse for events/activities.
To get to Syracuse from there, you can either take Route 321 to Route 5 to Route 695 to I-690 east or take Route 20 to Route 175(stay or take Route 173 depending on where you are going).
So, if you are looking for a community with an upscale feel, Skaneateles is definitely an area option to consider.
