Carousel Center named top mall by Travel & Leisure | Eagle News Online

I know CC can be a touchy subject for CNY'ers, but this is some impressive news. CC is ranked number 14, see Travel & Leisure link below.

America

I did not see this in the Post-Standard or other local media sources.

I will be interested to see/hear local views after the expansion is finally complete. I normally try to stay away from Carousel if I can - I will typically hit Great Northern and the box stores on 31 before going to Carousel. I feel like it's such a hassle sometimes and I would imagine that all the new stores, club, etc might make it more so. Just have to wait and see!

You raise a couple of good points Becca.

1) The most important review is Carousel's completion. I am curious how the local mainstream media will receive its completion.
2) I bet many locals will steer clear of Carousel Center/Destiny (CC/D) as it becomes more of a tourist destination and congested. Many tend to forget that the Regional Market Center (which I think is awesome by the way) is next to CC/D and adds to the congestion. If the inner-harbor becomes a draw that includes a Bass Pro or Cabela's, I would not blame anyone for shopping rt 31 or other retail destination.

In tourist cities like Las Vegas (lived there for a few years) and Orlando, locals avoid the tourist destinations like the plague and opt for more low-key options.

Completely agree. Don't get me wrong, I think the development is great for Syracuse! But me personally, I hate dealing with crowds/congestion when I'm trying to shop.

When I lived in Hawaii, I lived just outside of Waikiki, the main tourist district of Oahu. Besides riding my bike to the beach or meeting friends for food/drinks - you wouldn't catch me "hanging out" there. It's just too much. It was especially frustrating because just about everyone was a tourist, so those of us that actually lived on the island still got treated with a sort of "unknowingness" that is associated with tourists. You'd more than likely find myself and my friends on secluded beaches that no one else went to.
