This is an old thread but others moving into the area will probably read it. The thread is amusing because if Manlius and Fayetteville didn't have different names someone from outside the area, especially someone from a much larger municipal area, would think it was one town.True the kids have great loyalty to their own town, especially those in middle school. There is definitely a Wellwood vs EagleHill rivalry-probably fueled by the clubs and sports that compete against each other. But you could swap the people in each school for the others and unless you knew particular people, you'd not be able to tell the difference. The idea that wealth is different or that wealth is displayed differently across the two towns seems very silly/not true. In terms of the kids being materialistic, it's a lot less true for kids in either town than is the case in most communities downstate. There is not an over-arching snobbery that you are sure to encounter in communities close to NYC. The kids in F-M are more down-to-earth and activities are very family oriented and school oriented. Instead of parents getting babysitters and running off Broadway plays and dinner in the city there are family get-to-gethers, school activities, family dinners, etc. In other words, it's more family, school and community oriented than you'd find downstate in in the CT and NJ communities within striking distance of the city.
