As the title suggests, has anyone used them for work such as painting, carpentry ect? If so, how did you go about contacting folks for work? I have heard that the work is excellent and the cost reasonable.

My parents used them to buy hemlock beams from, when building their home in Pompey, and they ASKED to come back up when they brought a crane in to put it all together. Daddy chiseled our the mortis-and-tenon cuts all winter and, as requested, we invited them back up for the raising.

I can ask if they still have the contact information but I'm not sure how big a job needs to be for them to come up. ??

Have you googled Amish communities in NY yet?

It would be painting a fairly large house, and possibly stabilizing a barn. Thanks for your help, Proulxfamily.

I know you see quite a few at the Regional Market. So, you could possibly ask there too.

I think that most or all of the folks you see at the regional market may be Mennonite but am not certain. There is a sizable Mennonite community not far from Fort Drum and I think there's an Amish community near Parish.

If you're looking for good, dedicated work, there are also sizeable Bosnian and Somali immigrant communities in town. The eastern europeans were always sought after for their work ethic when I was working in the construction industry in europe, and if they work in the trades they'd probably be more than willing to do some work on the side (tradesmen almost always do it).
