Im wondering if this is ok to take in place of expensive 'omega-3'? anybody know the details of this?

Yes thats fine. Infact its the long chain fatty acids of DHA/EPA 20 AND 22 Carbon is what you want. The ALA is only 18 carbons long and has to be Elongated by certain enzymes in the body to DHA/EPA. So forget taking the Omega-6 or Omega-9.
Omega-6 is in almost any food we eat as its in all grains or grain base products and also in certain baking oils.
The omega-9 is Monounsaturated oil which you can get easily by consuming Olive Oil.
I take the ''Now'' products brand of Omega-3 thats high in DHA and EPA and costs around 8.00 dollars for about 200 softgels.....
