I've been car camping in my 2016 Subaru Outback, and plan on doing more soon. The front passenger seat is SO in the way! I could get in and out of the car more easily when I have the rear seats down for sleeping if that passenger seat was gone (I'm a short lady). And I would be able to stow so much more.
What would be the negatives or illegalities of just removing the front passenger seat? I don't have kids/grandkids so have no worries about car seat safety.
I can't imagine any "illegalities" of removing the front since it's your car. People do it all the time for weight saving purposes (usually the back seat though). The Dodge Demon even does that for you (adding the seats back is a $1 a seat). Obviously, you can't carry a passenger unless you have enough seats.
That said - you may want to look into how the SRS/Airbags sensors are wired on that side and how removing the seats will impact (if any). Perhaps if you unplug it, it will not do anything or you may get a fault light that you'll need to just ignore...
