We have a 2015 Forester with about 56K miles on it, bought it new and never had a problem.

Now I’m trying to decide if it’s time to trade it in on a new vehicle (make & model unknown at this point) or to keep this car for another few years or so?

Anyone out there with this same year and model have any major mechanical issues their vehicle?

I am just looking at the Consumers Reports reliability charts for the Forester. There were frequently reported major and minor engine issues in the Forester line from 2005-2013. The prior engine issues were apparently resolved by the 2014 model year. Without trying to describe every data feature, it's apparent that there were still some issues in the 2014-2018 model years, and the 2019-2022 have improved reliability. You can also ask around in a dedicated Forester forum.

Yes to both, since I now subscribe to consumers, I did see some issues with the 2015 and I am a member on the Forester web site and posted there as well. There were no reported major issues according to all of the responses that I’ve received, so far.

Just thought I’d check on this website as well since there are many car & mechanic gurus who read and post here as well.

Okay, well - I think you're looking in the right places :-). For what it's worth, I see you're not putting on many miles per year, so my take on the CR data for the 2015 would be that it's mixed, but all in all not too bad. If you want some extra peace of mind and don't mind spending the money, you can upgrade now... or if you want to conserve cash, it doesn't seem too risky to just keep the existing car for a couple more years yet... putting on 7k miles a year, that'll still only be 70-80k miles total in 2-3 more years.

My 2015 6 cylinder Outback had the CVT warranty extended to 100,000 miles. Not sure about the Forester.

The car overall is reliable but it will start to burn oil if the oil changes are not done regularly and use of cheap quality fuel. Valve cover gasket should also be changed at at around 75-90k miles.

I have a 2016 Forester, (sold a 2004 Forester over a year ago), overall one of the better model years for reliability.
