Some of the 2024 prices have been announced. The 2024 model year will come fairly early this year. Some models will be shipped this summer.
The Impreza sedan has been discontinued, and manual transmission is no longer available for the Impeza and the Crosstrek (only the BRZ and WRX).
There were some rumors that Subaru might follow Mazda's lead and eliminate the 2.0 liter 152 hp engine. The rumors proved unfounded although the production of all models with the 2.0 liter engines have been returned to Japan

That new 2024 Impreza RS trim is a good idea. They've migrated the 2.5l engine down to the Impreza to give it peppier acceleration and also a tauter suspension and upgraded brakes versus the base trim. Maybe not a "hot hatch" against today's competition, but it's a "warm hatch", with AWD, well under $30k, and that's a good option.

I agree. They also kept the MSRP within $500 of last year's top end Impreza.
$27,395 152 hp 2023 Impreza Limited 5-door
$27,885 182 hp 2024 Impreza RS

Well it is priced similar to the SUVs with the same engine, which also have AWD. Sales figures might get lost in the noise, as Subaru does not break out sales stats for models with a choice of engine size.
$26,395 182 hp 2023 Forester Base
$27,885 182 hp 2024 Impreza RS
$28,895 182 hp 2024 Outback
$28,995 182 hp 2024 Crosstrek Sport

Subaru entered the U.S. market in the 1960s as a "cheap and ugly" brand.
$1639 1967 VW Beetle
$1297 1967 Subaru 360
Now the title of America's cheapest vehicle belongs to the 2023 Mitsubishi Mirage/MSRP from $16,245 with a 2024 MSRP not announced yet. Subaru still was only 22% higher than the Mirage up until 2023.
No Forester prices yet. 2024 was supposed to be the next Forester redesign, but with crosstrek being delayed a year I was expecting Forester to get pushed back a year as well. I wonder if there is a chance we'll still see the Forester redesign in 24.

Subaru waited 35 weeks between the announcement of the 2023 prices and 2024 prices for both the Impreza and the Crosstrek.
The 2023 Forester prices were just announced 23 weeks ago.
The fifth-generation Forester was revealed on March 28, 2018. The normal turn around time for new generations is five years, but I agree with you that production shortfalls mean they will probably add another year.
Forester Sales last year
65.6% United States
12.6% Japan
5.6% Australia
4.7% China
3.9% Canada
1.7% Europe
5.9% Other Regions
The Forester is more of world vehicle for Subaru. United States sales are
94.7% Ascent
83.8% WRX
79.3% Legacy & Outback
66.1% Impreza & Crosstrek
29.2% BRZ in United States
56.2% BRZ in Japan
Possible ideas for a new Forester for the US market can be guessed from international designs
A Forester Sport with a CB18 1.8-liter direct injection turbocharged flat-4 engine was introduced in October 2020 for the Japanese domestic market. The Sport pumps out 175 hp and 221 lb-ft of torque, as opposed to American 182 horsepower and 176 pound-feet of torque. Americans may want the extra torque, but only if the company can increase production.
Subaru introduced the e-Boxer hybrid powertrain for the European-market and in Australia. The e-Boxer Forester improve fuel economy. It features a modified FB20 rated at 148 hp at 5,600–6,000 rpm and 143 lb⋅ft; of torque at 4,000 rpm. The Forester e-Boxer adds a single electric motor rated at 16 hp. Americans may reject the reduced power.

I find it amazing that the 2024 Outback Limited is just $35,795. When we bought our 2020 the MSRP was $34,455. It seems like an increase of $1,340 over 4 years is very reasonable.

Well you are including the destination fee for you 2020 number, and omitting the destination fee for your 2024 number. It has actually gone up $2,635 in four model years.
$33,445 - $34,455 with destination fee 2020 Outback Limited
$35,795 - $37,090 with destination fee 2024 Outback Limited
Subaru has kept the higher priced vehicles fairly steady, but the entry level price has jumped $4,490 from 2020 to 2024. Primarily because Subaru eliminted manual transmission ($1300 savings in 2023) and the sedan option ($500 savings in 2023) for the Impreza.
$18,695- $19,595 with destination fee 2020 Impreza Sedan Standard 5MT (lowest priced Subaru)
$22,995- $24,085 with destination fee 2024 Impreza hatcback with CVT (lowest priced Subaru)
It could have been worse as I assumed Subaru would follow Mazda's lead and eliminate the 2.0 liter engine and start at the 2.5 liter engine for entry level.
Cheap and ugly $1297
The original price of a Subaru was $1297 which would be about $11,000 in today's dollars.
The 2023 Civic Sedan Starts at $25,050 so the Impreza hatchback is still cheaper and it also has AWD.
The 2023 Nissan Sentra Starts at $19,950 which is certainly less expensive than the Impreza, but the impreza is a much better vehicle. the Impreza is more like a Nissan Rogue Sport (2.0-liter four-cylinder with 141 horsepower and 147 pound-feet of torque )

I suppose it would be fun to keep a vehicle like that in a garage for 54 years, but as an investment $1,297 in a 5%/year bond would be worth $18,078 after 54 years and it would require a lot less mainenance,
Subaru keeps the price increases on the poverty spec trims under pretty tight control. A base Outback with destination and delivery in 2012 had an MSRP of $25,070 and in 2024 the base MSRP is $30,190. That's an average of only 1.56% increase per year.
But a top end Outback with a bigger engine jumped from $32,470 to $44,090.
I think that has been the secret to success by most of the industry in the last decade. Instead of persuading buyers to upgrade to a more expensive model, they simply keep adding more and more expensive trims and options.
