Subaru of America (SOA) is thrilled with the sales results for August. It's the second time this year that sales are up, and they recorded their best monthly sales for 2022. The Camden, N.J. automaker reports 50,126 vehicle sales, a 1.5 percent increase in August, compared with August 2021 (49,373).

It's another small victory, and there is strong interest in the 2022 Subaru Crosstrek, Outback, Forester, Ascent, and other new models. We recently reported that Subaru has three top models in the ten most researched new cars.

Subaru Crosstrek is the top performer in August and 2022

The 2022 Subaru Crosstrek is smokin' hot, with 15,126 subcompact SUVs delivered to customers in August.

That's a 30.5 percent increase over August 2021 sales (11,587). Crosstrek is now the best-selling all-wheel-drive model for SOA, with 99,252 models delivered to customers through the first eight months.

Crosstrek is one of the few models with a sales increase in 2022, up 11.3 percent.

Subaru Sales in August were the best monthly sales of 2022, but that fact should be viewed in context for the year.


After sales peaking in 2019,
the 2020 sales returned to 2016 levels
the 2021 sales reurned to 2015 levels
the 2022 sales are on track to come below 2014 levels,


First 8 months of 2022: 306,368 SUVs; 49,089 cars
All 12 months of 2014: 370,431 SUVs; 143,262 cars


Subaru sales for 2022 are 86.2% SUVs and only 13.8% cars

Subaru shows some positive signs for October 2022, Sales were up 31.9% from October 2021, but still down -20.9% from October 2020.

Forester sales were their highest since January 2022, an encouraging sign for that model

Car sales continue to declind and it is not looking good at all especially for the sports cars, the WRX and the BRZ. Smart money would be that this is the last generation for both of them. Possibly the end of all Subaru cars before 2030.
